Privacy Policy

The short version: Kana Metro doesn't collect your personal information. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your learning progress stays on your device.

Information we collect

None. Kana Metro has no servers and doesn't send any data to us or to anyone else. We don't know who uses the app, and we can't see your progress.

Your learning progress

Your progress — completed lessons, how well you know each character, points, your streak and the words you've found — is saved only on your device. It's included in your device's normal backups (for example iCloud Backup), which are controlled by you and Apple. Deleting the app deletes your progress. You can also erase it at any time from the Chart tab ("Reset all progress").

Camera and photos

The "Read the World" feature can use your camera or a photo you choose, to find Japanese words in it. The text is recognized on your device using Apple's built-in text recognition. Photos are not saved by the app and are never uploaded.

Microphone and speech recognition

When you tap "Say it", the app listens through the microphone so you can read a word out loud, and checks what you said using Apple's speech recognition. Depending on your device and settings, Apple may process this audio on its servers to recognize it. That processing is handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy; Kana Metro does not store or receive your recordings. The microphone is only used while you're doing a "Say it" challenge.

Permissions

The app asks for camera, microphone and speech recognition access only when you first use a feature that needs it. Choosing a photo uses Apple's photo picker, which only shares the photo you pick. Everything else works without them, and you can change these permissions any time in your iPhone's Settings.

This website's contact form

If you write to us using the contact form on this website, your message, your email address and your name (if you give it) are delivered to our inbox by Web3Forms, the service that handles the form. We use them only to reply to you, and never share or sell them. The website itself has no ads, cookies or analytics.

Children

Kana Metro doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes — for example, if progress sync through your own iCloud account is added — this page will be updated and the date above will change.
